WCC Running Start |
Sophomores and Juniors who are interested in attending the WCC Running Start Program for next fall need to complete a placement test at the WCC campus. CALL EARLY to reserve a space in one of the following assessment dates. The earlier your test date, the better your class registration date! To reserve a space in a testing session, call the college at 650-5353.
WHATCOM
COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Students must make an appointment
with WCC for the assessment test, and students must place at or above English
100 (college level). Please call 650-5353 to sign up for the assessment test.
BELLINGHAM
TECHNICAL COLLEGE
Students must arrange to take the Computerized Placement Test (CPT) by calling
715-8345. Students are required to meet proficiency standards in mathematics,
sentence skills, and reading.
The Running Start program is a state-wide
partnership between high schools and community and technical colleges. The
program allows local high school juniors and seniors to attend Bellingham Technical
College and Whatcom Community College classes tuition free, and earn college
credits which also apply to high school graduation requirements. Students are
required to pay for the cost of books, transportation, and student or lab fees.
Also, at BTC students assume the costs for special tools, clothing, and
supplies needed for their program.
Students may enroll simultaneously in high school and college classes, or solely in college classes. The Running Start program offers eligible high school students the opportunity to get a "head start" on earning college credits, take courses that satisfy both high school and college credit requirements, seek a greater academic challenge, or take courses that are not offered in high school.
To participate in Running Start, students must be of eleventh or twelfth grade standing. Home schooled and private schooled students of equivalent age may access Running Start by registering at their neighborhood high school. Candidates for Running Start must successfully complete assessment testing at either Whatcom Community College or Bellingham Technical College.
Squalicum High School students interested in obtaining more information about
this program should contact Cindy O’Brien, Squalicum Running Start Coordinator,
at 676-6470 ext. 5170 or online at ciobrien@bham,wednet.edu
