3.Off the school grounds at a school activity, function, or event.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
All students who attend Squalicum High School shall comply with the written rules and regulations of the Bellingham School District and all applicable state and local laws (WAC 180-40). In addition, all pupils shall submit to the reasonable discipline of school authorities designated by the Bellingham School District Board of Directors.
AFTER SCHOOL AND OFF CAMPUS EVENTS
School rules and regulations are in effect at all school sponsored events. The majority of school rules, including the ones dealing with drugs, alcohol and tobacco use are in effect at Civic Field during football games, at after-game dances, and at all away athletic contests involving Squalicum teams.
CLOSED CAMPUS
Squalicum High School is a "closed campus" during the entire school day including lunch periods. Students may not leave the campus at any time unless they have prior approval from the main office. Once students arrive at school, they may not leave campus without permission from the main office. Students leaving for appointments (doctor, dentist, etc.) must have parent approval (phone or note) and sign out through the office before leaving campus. Any students that leave campus as part of their schedule or program (i.e. Running Start, Work Experience, Early Dismissal) will have a pass indicating this privilege.
LATE ARRIVALS AND EARLY DISMISSALS
Students scheduled for late arrival should not arrive at school until just prior to the first scheduled class. Early dismissal students should leave the building at the completion of the last scheduled class.
STUDENT PARKING/DRIVING
City traffic regulations are in effect in all areas in the vicinity of SQUALICUM. Violations will be referred to the BPD for action. All numbered parking spaces require a valid permit. ANY ILLEGAL PARKING ON SCHOOL GROUNDS MAY RESULT IN THE VEHICLE BEING TOWED AWAY AT OWNER'S RISK AND EXPENSE (Approximate cost - $100.00) or a FINE OF $25 BY THE SCHOOL. A fine of $25 may be assessed for reckless driving at school.
CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR
School should be a safe place for all students and staff. Every individual deserves to be treated with respect and consideration. Illegal and inappropriate activities such as fighting, hazing, intimidation, harassment, vandalism, theft, etc. will not be tolerated and will result in disciplinary action and referral to the police.
FOOD AND DRINK
Food and drink are allowed only in the Commons area on first floor or outside the building. Violations will result in ASA or other discipline.
ALCOHOL, TOBACCO AND OTHER DRUGS
The use or possession of drugs or alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited. Use or possession of tobacco in any form on school grounds is prohibited.
POSSESSION OF ILLEGAL WEAPONS
Possession and/or use of any weapon or item considered to be a weapon will result in immediate suspension or expulsion and referral to the police authorities.
GANG AFFILIATION
Students may not wear clothing, display symbols, or exhibit behavior representing gang membership or affiliation. Any suspected gang activity will be referred to the Bellingham Police Department.
FIRE ALARM / BOMB THREATS / EXPLOSIVES / ARSON
Any action which places individuals in danger or disruption in the school will result in emergency expulsion and referral to police for prosecution.
PERSONAL ITEMS

Electronic devices are not allowed at school. These include cellular phones, beepers, scanners, radios, tape decks, etc. Such items are potentially disruptive and should not be brought or used at school. Personal stereo devices are not allowed in the school building. Headphones may be used by students only as part of a class or school program.
