Gear Up!
The Squalicum High School GEAR UP Scholars Project is part of the second Washington State GEAR UP program. It is administered by the Higher Education Coordinating Board (HECB). GEAR UP -- which stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs -- is a federally funded college access program.
The Squalicum High School GEAR UP Scholars Project strives to:
- Embed academic support for struggling students within the regular school day and structure by offering support classes in math literacy and study skills
- Provide tutoring and mentoring services for GEAR UP students before and after school
- Increase college awareness for GEAR UP students and families
- Provide career exploration and counseling to GEAR UP students
- Offer financial aid and college admissions information and assistance to parents
- Provide adult leadership and professional concern for GEAR UP students
- Ensure that all GEAR UP students meet the requirements of the program and are eligible for GEAR UP financial assistance upon graduation from Squalicum High School.
Important!!!
If you did not take the PLAN Test in October, you must take it in November. This is a requirement for the GEAR UP program. We delivered notes to classrooms on Friday, November 14th. If you did not get a note, please ask your teachers if they have the note on Monday and Tuesday. You can check with Ms. Stevens in the SqHS Career Center if you can’t get the note and need information.
You need to show up no later than 7:45 AM on the day and in the classroom indicated in your note.
If you have a problem with a planned absence, please see Ms. Stevens immediately. Everyone must take this test.
Thanks,
Ms. Stevens, Mrs. Spain, Mrs. Montague, Mr. Glass, Ms. Reynolds
